Mount Etna Trekking

First of all, from the Northern side, we will start our ascent to the Mongibello. Actually, this is the local name of the volcano, which means “the beautiful mountain”.

Then, we will pass through the floods of solid lava, burnt trees and unique volcanic landscapes. Finally, we arrive at the Northern side of the volcano – Piano Provenzana.

Finally, we are at the altitude of 1,881 m above sea level.

Moreover, the eruption in 2002 completely destroyed the area. Indeed, this part is still in the process of restructuring. For this reason, Sicilians only use cable car here.

To start, we will take a path inside the Park of Etna. To end, we will reach the craters of the Monti Sartorius at 1,700 mt. The craters formed during the eruption of 1865.

The descent from the Northern side lead us to the road which overlooks the lava-stone villages of Linguaglossa, Rovittello, Solicchiata and Passopisciaro.

From here we will enjoy an amazing view of the north flank of Etna, Taormina, and the Valley of Alcantara, and also the fracture formed in 2002.

We will keep walking along the birch forest first, and the old pine forest of Ragabo than until Piano Provenzana where we end our walk.

Equipment: trousers, t-shirt, jacket, fleece, good walking boots, gloves, hut, at least a bottle of water each, stick if you feel more comfortable, sun cream, sunglasses.
