On arrival at the South side of the volcano (Rifugio Sapienza) you will be greeted by a chillier climate and surreal lava covered landscape. At 6000ft above sea level you can walk around the lower craters and take in spectacular scenery.

You can enjoy free time wandering around the craters and lava tracks taking in the breathtaking landscape where displays of steam and smoke emerge through layers of ash. Here you will have the opportunity to take the cable car and 4x4 buses and reach an incredible 9500ft or visit low craters on foot

We move towards Taormina. Make a stop at panoramic Belvedere, offering fantastic views - the ideal location to take shots of the coastline and Isola Bella.

In Taormina we wander historic Corso Umberto - the main promenade through the heart of Taormina, boasting elegant design shops, cute cafés and restaurants.

You will have time to visit botanical gardens, Greek amphitheatre, Cathedral and the Palazzo Corvaja one of the most elegant buildings in this chic town.

We leave Taormina and continue our journey back to Messina. We take in the Cathedral with its famous Astronomical clock. Known as the gateway to Sicily, Messina is just a few kilometres from the Italian mainland, hemmed in by the Peloritani Mountains to the rear, this big, bustling city has wide boulevards and elegant turn-of-the-century buildings.

Historical monuments are few as the city was practically razed to the ground by an earthquake in 1908; further devastation took place by mass bombings in WWII leaving very little remains of its architectural wonders. Please note: This is a private excursion with a dedicated driver and vehicle. On receiving your booking we will contact you to arrange pick up time and any special requirements you may have.
