Agrigento and Piazza Armerina
This is a full day excursion with an early start recommended. You will be collected from your preferred location. Agrigento has one of the most important archaeological sites in the world “Valle dei Templi” or Valley of the Temples. Part of the ancient city of Agracas, the Greek writer and poet Pindar described it as “one of the most beautiful cities of those inhabited by mortals”. Today Agrigento's former grandeur is still apparent in the valley’s seven temples of these; The Tempio Della Concordia (Temple of Concord) is one of the best preserved Greek temples in the world helping the site to gain the classic UNESCO world heritage award.
Your journey begins with a beautiful drive through the centre of Sicily heading to the southern coast. Arriving in Agrigento you will visit the Valley of the Temples (Juno, Concordia, Hercules, Olympian Zeus, Castor and Pollux).
Our next stop is the Greek quarter of Agrigento where you will visit the 12th Century church of Santa Maria dei Greci (Saint Mary of the Greeks) built on the ruins of a temple, a small jewel in the heart of Agrigento.
Time will be allocated for lunch; your driver will discuss your options depending on your requirements.
After lunch we depart to Piazza Armerina and visit the Villa Romana “Villa del Casale”. The mosaics will leave you mesmerised and prepare you for
for the huge Baroque Cathedral standing in the Duomo.
Leaving Piazza Armerina we head back cutting through the centre of Sicily’s breath-taking scenery and return to your preferred drop off location.
Please note: This is a private excursion with a dedicated driver and vehicle, entrance fees to archaeological sites ARE NOT included in the cost. All of our excursions and tours have been organised for pick up within a 10km radius of Taormina and Giardini Naxos. We would be more than happy to quote for pick up outside this area.
